At the General Election in Truro & St Austell on 5th May 2005, 51564 votes were cast (approximately 64% of the total number of eligible voters) with the following result:

Matthew Taylor (Liberal Democrat): 24089 votes (-1.6%).

Dr Fiona Kemp (Conservative): 16686 votes (+0.1%).

Dr Charlotte Mackenzie (Labour): 6991 votes (-0.1%).

David Noakes (UK Independence Party): 2736 votes (+2%).
