Stephen Gilbert, the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary candidate for St Austell & Newquay, said: "The party owes Ming a huge debt of gratitude. He became leader at a particularly difficult time and has helped to restore a sense of purpose, professionalism and principle into our party which will allow us to face the future with confidence. I wish him the best of luck for the future, and am sure that he will continue to play a vital role in our long-term success."
